Ocean
Realm Society members adhere to the concept that, for one to enjoy
the recreational and resource benefits of the ocean, we must "Respect
and Protect" our ocean environment.
"The protection
of the ocean is not a choice, but a responsibility to all who inhabit
this planet." Richard
H. Stewart, Founder, Ocean Realm Society
Since
the beginning of human history, the world's oceans have seemed to
dwarf humanity. For countless generations, people who have earned
their living from the sea have understood their own frailty before
its size and power. Looked at from afar, whether from outer space
or from a beach chair, the vast marine environment would seem the
most powerful, timeless and endless feature on the earth.
Yet, as small as we humans may seem compared to the seas, it is
clear that we now have the capacity to cause them to undergo important
changes, many for the worse. Oceans, we must remember, are not simply
enormous bodies of water; they are also enormous ecosystems--in
many ways the most important ecosystems of the world. And in the
biological sense, recent scientific studies make it clear that the
oceans are not timeless at all. In fact, if some experts are to
be believed--for many of the ecological functions of the sea--time
may be running out.
Join us as we grow the
largest, like-minded, global ocean community. Don;t wait to see
what the future holds...become a part of what the future molds!
